What are dental implants?
Dental implants are one of the tooth replacement options we offer at Dearborn West Dental to restore your smile to its full potential after tooth loss. A dental implant is made up of three main parts:
- The dental implant itself is a small, screw-like post that is surgically inserted into the jawbone. This replaces the missing tooth root and provides a stable, lasting foundation for the replacement tooth.
- The abutment is attached to the top of the implant post.
- The dental implant restoration is attached to the abutment on top of the dental implant. The implant restoration replaces the crown of the tooth (the portion visible above the gum line). Based on your personal dental needs and which teeth are missing, your restoration may be a dental crown, a bridge, a partial denture, or a complete denture.
The implant process typically requires several months because your jawbone and gum tissues must heal after the surgical placement of the dental implant. Drs. Farber and Farber work closely with our specialists, including Dr. Henry Bryan (oral maxillofacial surgeon) and Dr. Ana Janic to ensure the best possible results.
